Looking Forward To The Sunset
I met with him
Over dinner.
It was his birthday this week,
And he is my husband's brother.
He said amazing things to me,
The observations of a philosopher.
He said I was wise
And didn't realize that.
We talked of when
I turned 40 and nearly died
The overwhelming desire to die
And the man who pushed me into it.
I was looking backward.
I had lived a life full of pain and sorrow,
And no more. I was done.
Then I lived, survived, and
Was pissed I chickened out on death
Choosing instead
To see another sunset.
Today is not much different.
Looking back and seeing
How hard it was
And is
Once again, being done
Anxiously awaiting death.
